The European Working Group for Breast Screening Pathology (EWGBSP) was set up in 1993 under the chairmanship of the late Professor John Sloane in order to make the practice of breast pathology more uniform throughout Europe and promote consistent reporting of breast lesions.

Members of the EWGBSP are pathologists with special interest in breast pathology and represent most countries of the European Union and surrounding countries, where breast screening was introduced.

The group was responsible for writing the European guidelines for quality assurance in breast cancer screening and diagnosis, of which the fourth edition and its Supplements were the latest updates in 2012. These Publications can be downloaded from our Publication-Website. Several other publications of this group are also listed.

A lot of the groups’ scientific work is dedicated to practical breast pathology issues like inter-observer variability studies and suggestions for improvement of working definitions.

As an example a teaching module is published here for your self-evaluation of microinvasion in breast lesions.
